The Benefits of Living by a Code
and why your consciousness knows what do
I just read an article by Steve Wozniak, Apple co-founder that baffled me because he is actually a person who lives by his moral code. He is driven to live his life by an internal compass so strong that he follows its direction.
Why was I so amazed and inspired by him? Because today, I feel like we are driven, and sometimes circumstances or consequences by our vices and external pulls.
Let me explain external pull, money for one. We want to make more money so we opt for a career that pays more. Vanity is another, we know that 'beauty’ is defined by certain standards so we opt for silicone breasts and a lighter complexion.
However, some people are still trying so hard to stay true to themselves. I know how hard it can be to live by your principles and values when your life and those of the ones you love depend on choosing a vice or an external pull.
It breaks you. It is so hard, and everyday after that decision becomes a fight to go back to the person you truly are.
When I look within myself and think about the only times I feel peace and I am happy with what I find, is when I am closer to God. Sometimes, I cannot understand the direction my life is taking, I look back and wonder about the decisions I have made. I am struggling to get out of this misery, to be happy, to let go…but I seemingly can’t because I am drowning in the despair of trying to understand my life’s meaning and to control my future.
We can make plans and fail, and I can say this with confidence because I have tried. We can regret bad decisions, and struggle with the ones we need to make. We can try and reconcile with those who have hurt us and the times we have hurt ourselves. We can hope for forgiveness and try to forgive ourselves, but I say go back to that place of peace deep inside.
Seek what you know and feel can give you back some of that purity that you shed and reconcile with yourself to find joy in your life now. To accept what is, what was and know that what lies in the future is meant for you; and nothing can come in the way of what is truly yours but only if you truly listen to yourself.
